In Memory of David Thomas
On Sunday morning April 17th this year, whilst the present members were hard at work on the pre-season club work-party, David Thomas passed peacefully away at his home in St Albans. It is hardly possible to think of Bamville CC without David. Joining in the 70s a “nice little club that needs some organising”, that is what he did so very well, right up to, and beyond, the day he retired from Hon. President (1996 – 2013), after being Hon. Chairman (1986 – 1996), Hon. Treasurer (1976 – 1977), and Captain (1980 & 1982). Always ably supported by his wife Carole (feeding the fifty plus packed into the pavilion for the Club Dinner, filling Tea rotas, etc.) and son Nick, the club was a very big part of his full life. A big hitter (across the line) with a century to his name it, was behind the stumps he really worked his magic, especially enjoying the spinners. More recent members will remember him juggling the controls on his wheelchair and still presenting trophies. Speaking a couple of weeks before he died he was keen to emphasise the importance of the “ethos” of the club. He will be sadly missed by members old and new, opposition, friends and family, and be forever honoured by the anecdotes of all our long memories of David.
For members and friends of Bamville, David's funeral will be held at St Albans Abbey at 10:30am on Friday May 6th and you are welcome to attend if you'd like to pay your respects.
