You can cut the tension with a cricket stump. - Murray Walker
Winter Nets
Winter net sessions run on Sunday mornings between 10 and 11am at Hertfordshire Sports Village, University of Herts in Hatfield.
2012 nets start on January 8th and run until April 15th - it's a great chance for you to get back into cricket before the season and to meet the new players. All are welcome to attend.
The cost of the nets is £5 for adults, £3 for students and the unemployed. The Sports Village no longer charge a £1 entry fee for team sports
We have had a few issues in recent years, so this is just a reminder of net etiquette:
- Please ensure you have a white (or at the very least a pale-coloured) top, this is to aid the visibilty of batsmen - red balls are very difficult to pick out of dark-coloured backgrounds and this makes it dangerous for those at the other end! It doesn't have to be a cricket shirt, any white shirt will do.
- Please arrive at or before 10am if you wish to bat. It's unfair on those who turn up on time to have their batting time cut short because others are less well-organised. Batting order is on a first-come, first-in basis. Don't turn up last and expect to bat straight away.
- When bowling, let the batsman know (and make sure he acknowledges) if you wish to change from over- to around-the-wicket. Again, this is for the batsman's safety.
- After you've bowled, always keep your eye on the action, the ball commonly runs down towards the bowlers off the bat and is occasionally still moving pretty quickly. It will hurt. If there's a shout of 'feet', it probably means the ball is headed along the ground towards the queue of bowlers. Join the back of the queue when you've bowled, it saves confusion over who's next to bowl if everyone stays in order.
Nets in 2010 and 2011 were well attended, and that's the way we need it to be so please come along when you can even if it's only for a couple of sessions.
